What is K Laser Treatment?

The therapy has been used in Europe since the 1970s, and since the FDA first cleared it for use in 2002, it is expanding to treat a wide variety of diseases and conditions in the United States. The principle behind it is the use of red and near-infrared wavelengths of light to stimulate metabolic cell activity and promote easier flow of nutrients through the cell membranes. The K Laser combines the device that delivers the light waves with integrated software that calibrates the correct dosage, depth, and time needed to treat specific areas of pain. The software offers 55 preset protocols that we can choose, such as a setting to relieve chronic pain in your feet, for example, or a muscle spasm in your calves. (How K Laser Works ? Click here )

Common Conditions That Respond to Laser Therapy

One area that we have had success with is plantar fasciitis. This injury to the ligament under your foot can cause severe or chronic heel pain. We will tailor a treatment plan for the severity of your injury, starting with several sessions per week and tapering off until your pain is gone. We also have good results treating Achilles tendinitis with laser therapy. It increases the circulation in the damaged area, increasing the water, nutrients, and oxygen at the site to reduce inflammation and swelling, relieve muscle spasms and stiffness, and alleviate the pain. We can use it to treat pain from many of the following:

  • Sore and stiff joints from arthritis
  • Damaged nerves from diabetic neuropathy
  • Skin lesions such as burns, foot ulcers, and venous ulcers
  • Sprained ligaments in your ankle, foot, or toe
  • Stretched or torn tendons
  • Pulled muscles
  • Sport, auto, or on-the-job injuries

What Happens During Treatment?

You will sit or lie quietly during your therapy session, which usually takes between 6 and 10 minutes. You may feel some mild tingling or warmth, inflamed areas may experience a little flare before you feel relief, but there are few side effects. Sometimes an old injury may be aggravated for a few days after a treatment, as the cell tissues become more active during the increased healing period.

We may combine laser therapy with other treatment methods such as massage, physical therapy, or surgery, as it can speed up healing after the procedure and lead to shorter recovery times. The sessions build on each other and several may be needed depending on the severity of your pain.
